Good evening, church family!
This past weekend I was with my brothers and dad as we celebrated the culmination of a year’s worth of work, preparation and training by participating in the Pikes Peak Ascent, a half marathon that starts at the bottom of the mountain and ends at the summit!
Though I’ve completed this race five previous times, this particular Saturday was not my day! The elevation hit me hard, and I was unable to finish. I think I learned more about myself in failure than I did with my past achievements, and I’m thankful for that. But more importantly, my brothers did manage to make it to the top and I am so proud of them!
While on the trail, these words came to mind…
I raise my eyes toward the mountains.
Where will my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2
And one more update from the Byler family: over the past week CJ and I received an offer on our house in Winfield, accepted that offer, made an offer on a house in Andover and had that offer accepted! We are still bringing in the necessary parties involved and don’t yet have a fully-signed contract, but we’re so thankful for this progress! We’re so close!
God has been faithful, and you have been so kind with your prayers, cards and words of encouragement. God is good! Keep scrolling to check out a few important reminders below, and don’t forget that your pastor loves you!

HELP NEEDED: We have a good partnership with a local karate instructor, who regularly uses our facilities for evening classes. Next month our church will host a large karate tournament, and we need some volunteers with muscles to help set up and tear down for this event! If you’re willing and able to help and would like to earn a black belt in chair moving please meet at the church Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. and then again Saturday, Oct. 5 late afternoon/early evening to reset for Sunday’s service!
LADIES’ RETREAT: The Kansas District is hosting “Peace by Peace” a ladies’ retreat with Donna Kyzer-Rice Oct. 25-26 at the Mariott Hotel in Wichita (9100 Corporate Hills Dr., across from Costco). Register at ksnazarene.org by Oct. 11.
JUST FOR FUN
Hey, you read Pastor Billy's midweek check-in all the way to the end! As a reward, check out these crazy stories I came across recently:
The elusive trapdoor ravine spider literally sets traps for its victims. It also has, how do I say this, a butt that looks like an Oreo.
A guy in Florida won $10,000 by catching 20 pythons in 10 days.
Parents who named their baby Loki Skywalker can’t get a passport for him due to a Star Wars copyright infringement.
